Remedial/Sports Massage.
-
What Is It?.
Remedial/Sports Massage is a hands on therapeutic treatment using a variety of warming, loosening & stretching techniques with a varying amount of pressure to the affected area.
The purpose of this is to release tight & shortened muscles & fascia, & help restore normal, healthy function.
Touch & ‘hands-on’ therapies can be a hugely effective way to treat muscle & soft tissue dysfunction because the hands are sensory. This allows the skilled practitioner to both assess & treat according to the feedback given as treatment progresses. -
How Does It Work?.
The main aim is to increase blood circulation to the specific area of soft tissue dysfunction, which warms the tissues & helps them to relax.
The increase in circulation feeds & nourishes the tissues, the by-products are carried away, thereby improving the overall health of the area.
Stretching techniques can then be used to restore natural resting length to the muscles, allowing ‘normal’ healthy muscle function to be restored.
Specific exercises may well be given for the individual to practise at home from a maintenance or preventative perspective. -
Who Is It For?.
Sports/Remedial Massage is for anyone.
However, it is most commonly used to treat sore, aching, tight muscles, whether due to overuse, muscle imbalance, repetitive strain, injury, postural problems, or sports specific pain to name but a few.
Whether muscle soreness is due to physical injury/imbalance or as a result of emotional/mental stress, the response is generally that the muscle will tighten & become sore.
Sports/Remedial Massage along with specific corrective exercise & stretching of the affected tissues is incredibly effective in restoring normal healthy function & ultimately relieving pain.
